McCartneyism

4 06 2010

Via Yglesias, this from Human Events is pretty funny shit:

McCartney is the third recipient of the Gershwin Prize. Hailing from England and having earned no university degrees of his own, the Beatle may not know W. was the first American president to earn a master’s degree in business administration. (The fact the MBA is from Harvard really irks the left.) Not to mention Bush is married to a librarian.

That’s more or less the entirety of the intellectual content of modern conservatism right there: embarrassingly thin-skinned and disproportionate (the House minority leader?  Really?) responses to completely non-controversial comments, the knee-jerk “It Irks Liberals” pathology, even a bit of charmless literalism thrown in at the end (“He so totally does too know where the library is!  Duh!!”).  And, as Roy notes, the HE and Boehner circle-jerk act as a catalyst that sets off howls of inchoate and badly delusional rage across the Moronosphere, culminating (for me) in Dan Riehl’s head-scratching assertion that McCartney has “revealed himself too many times for the media to continue making excuses for him.”  I had no idea!  (Of course, just for good measure, he calls McCartney a “scumbag” and tells him to “just die, already.”  Dan, seriously, decaf.)

Update: A bit more here, including a link to a Charles Lane howler in the WaPo.  I’d think, if anything, they’d be more upset that their boy isn’t even getting hit with good jokes anymore.  McCartney’s jibe was third-rate lazy at best.  Bush deserves better!
