Josh Marshall on a beautiful tear.

As I’ve said before, the only flaw here is the assumption of a baseline honesty in the mission of corporate journalism.  But honesty is not its job, nor is providing its customers with factual information.  You can’t argue, for example, that the FNC malfunctioned the other day, because in fact it did exactly what it’s programmed to do, just as Howie Kurtz did exactly what he’s supposed to do when he defended the network against rude assertions that deploying the powers of mass media to destroy a heretofore anonymous federal employee’s life was somehow “wrong or bad.”  Or maybe it was the NAACP’s fault.  Or Obama’s.  Or G-d’s.  Who say?  Life is so complicated, etc.
